In celebration of Big Crown Records’ 10 Year Anniversary, we teamed up with the good folks at Wax Poetics to make a limited edition magazine dedicated to the label’s story. Wax Poetics has been one of the most revered music publications since its inception in 2001, so needless to say, we couldn’t be more honored to have them tell the story of the first 10 years of Big Crown.

They asked us to dig deep into the photo archives, interviewed label owners Leon Michels and Danny Akalepse, did their signature record rundown sections with Derya Yıldırım, Leon, and Lepse, and asked all the active artists on the roster to answer the same set of questions. The 40-plus-page magazine comes with a never-before-released 7″ record featuring “Oh Medaase!” by El Michels Affair feat. Ahemaa Nwomkro on the A side, and “Here Tomorrow, Gone Today” by Dave Guy on the B side. Both sides of the record are pure dancefloor funk fire.

This is a rare opportunity to get behind the scenes of one of the world’s most respected independent imprints, and get a sense of what it took — and what it takes — to make Big Crown, Big Crown.
